Wardley Farm Swinton Moss, L.S. Lowry
6 3/4 x 13 1/2", Oil On Board, 1913
A rare original Oil on Board of Wardley Farm at Swinton Moss, the subject isn't that of a typical Lowry oil being of such an early era.
Lowry originally gave this painting to Dora Craston, also a student of Adolphe Valette like Lowry. According to Dora Craston, Lowry asked her to marry him, however she declined and married another of Valette's pupils, Charles Holmes.
In the 1960s Lowry asked Dora if he could have the picture returned as he told her it formed an important part of his collection. She decided against this and the painting remained in the family until it was acquired by Clark Art.
